FIX: XP Web Publishing Support within vista

MS officially stated that they removed the "Web Publishing Wizard" from Vista. Well, low and behold, hacking around the registry, I have found out what they really did with it. They renamed it to "Order Prints Wizard"

And renamed the regitry location from:
HKCU\Softw...\Explorer\PublishingWizard\PublishingWizard\Providers
To:
HKCU\Softw...\Explorer\PublishingWizard\InternetPhotoPrinting\Providers

Yes, it's that simple, just replace "PublishingWizard" with "InternetPhotoPrinting" within the reg file. And use Windows Photo Gallery to "print" your photos to your Gallery. It's the SAME exact wizard just renamed to printing!!!

Thanks for the information!

We'll have to find out whether to auto-detect the operating system or to offer 2 download files.

For now, I'll file a bug such that we keep track of it.

I'm new to Gallery and it's looking pretty damn nice and customizable.

I use Photoshop Elements 5 to manage my photos and since there's no easy solution for transferring directly to Gallery from PSE5, I'm using the Windows VIsta "Order Prints Wizard" which I found to be a nice solution.

Problem is - I can't get the Vista Order Prints Wizard to send images larger than 2MB... it doesn't seem to fail, but the pics are never uploaded. I thought it was random until I tested and found that < 2MB images transfer and apply to ther correct album just fine...

anyone else have this problem? Wondering if it's a Vista problem or with Gallery, permissions, etc?

ee:
FAQ: Why can't I upload big files (over a megabyte or two)?

you can verify that theory by trying to upload 5 MB files with "add from browser". if that doesn't work either, it's that issue.

OK, I'll try the php.ini/.htaccess...

But, I thought of the real issue... when i use WinXP's "Publish to Web" it gives me the ability to resize the photos to 640x480/800x600/1024x768 after the Extension/Caption/Thumbnail step - Vista's Windows Photo Album "Print to web" doesn't seem to give this option... just goes right to upload...

As most of my photos are large, I'd rather this option and I would never have to worry about the 2MB cap... any idea how to turn this on in Vista for "printing" to my Gallery website? possibly another registry hack?

Thanks,
-T

Valiant, thanks for the link to the FAQs - while modifying the global php.ini file in my root did not work, nor did the .htaccess filte in the /gallery2/ folder, a php.ini file in the /gallery2/ folder worked like a charm!

Still, if anyone knows how to enable the "resize before upload" option in Vista's Windows Photo Album that used to be in XP's Publish To Web, I'd appreciate it!

Guys I tried going through the process that Gotzsboots suggested and it just plain didn't work? The registry has the entry in the same place as the Kodak printing but neither shows when I go to orderprints. Any ideas?

You're using "Windows Photo Gallery" to Order Prints? With the RTM version of Vista? And, in my registry Kodak is under DownloadedProviders not Providers.
The full location is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\PublishingWizard\InternetPhotoPrinting\Providers

Hi again... now that I have the PublishXP working through Vista's Windows Photo Gallery, I wonder if there is any way to add the album date/time to the PublishXP "New Album" form? Every time I create a new album from the past I have to upload and then edit the album to change the date - would be much simpler if I could set it within the PublishXP form...

I have tried to edit the /gallery/modules/publishxp/newalbum.inc code but just end up breaking it...

Thanks in advance!

Unless you are going to be commenting on the subject of this thread, I'd suggest create a new one with your questions. As this thread ONLY pertains to getting the publish feature working again with Vista.

btw: we have a fix ready for the publishxp module, but it's too late to include it in g2.2.
we'll release the update for the publishxp module shortly after g2.2.

Fixed in r15958 (branch DEV_2_3) will be part of Gallery 2.3 and is
available through DP in the experimental repository as soon as G2.2 has
been released.

I am new to the forum and I thank everyone that provides help here.

I have a personal gallery and recently upgrade to Vista Premium.

I was reading the thread above and appreciateed the help it provided.

I fixed my xp publishing problem by doing the following.

1. Opened up the old xp publishing registry key that was downloaded while setting up with Windows XP.

2. I then followed the regisrty entry provide abve and edited the path.

3. I added the info from the old xp registry change and then went into the windows gallery and selected order prints.

4. I chose my gallery and uploaded a photo.

It worked like a charm.

Is there some kind of security setting that I have to make to keep the key?

Hi, I am a new Gallery2 user running vista and it would be really helpful if someone could provide a little more info on how you got this to work,

"MS officially stated that they removed the "Web Publishing Wizard" from Vista. Well, low and behold, hacking around the registry, I have found out what they really did with it. They renamed it to "Order Prints Wizard"

I'm not quite sure what you mean by replace "PublishingWizard" with "InternetPhotoPrinting" within the reg file. Can you walk me through this a little more? How do I get this setup to work? I found the reg key you mentioned but what's next? What do I change so that Windows Photo Gallery knows to point at my Gallery?

By the way I've never used the Publish Wizard before in XP.

Thanks so much in advance,

-Caleb

there's no need to hack anything.
from my previous post:

thanks so much.

I have tow more quick questions:

1. how can I tell which version of Gallery 2.x I'm using

2. Is there a resolution for the registry key automatically deleting in Vista after I try to send photos in Windows Photo Gallery. I don't know if this happens because I have mis-configured the key itself (I haven't successfully connected) or if this is a problem with the Gallery end of things.

Thanks!

Okay, so I've done all that - updated plugins, installed the Vista Registry - but I have no idea how to get my files in my gallery still.

I highlighted and right clicked on the photos that I wanted in the folder, but I see nothing even remotely related to uploading.

Any further help would be appreciated.

Edit: Never mind. I figured it out. You have to upload through the Window Photo Gallery.

rxphoto: It will make that reg file every time you click on it. Just download and save the reg file, right click --> edit, make the changes and save it. Right click on it and choose Merge. Then go the Windows Photo Gallery, choose Print --> Order Prints...

yahtzee: assuming you've done the rest right, you go to Windows Photo Gallery, highlight some pictures (CTRL + Click) and hit the Print menu. Order Prints...

For everyone, here's a functioning .reg file for your reference. The ONLY change you should need to make is in bold.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\PublishingWizard\InternetPhotoPrinting\Providers\sarahandglenn.com]
"displayname"="Gallery at sarahandglenn.com"
"description"="Publish Your Photos and Movies to Gallery"

Followed the instructions as per the link posted by valiant, it's not working. In Windows Gallery I go to Print -> Order Prints, and it comes back with "no printing companies found in your area". Any suggestions?

Hi,
I have my gallery hosted at one company (not my local server).
I have tried all the methods indicated in the instruction page, and none of this works.
If I upload more than 2MB via the Windows Photo Gallery, it just doesn't help.
Any helps would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It isn't renaming, the "Order prints online" wizard was already available in Windows XP. The publishing wizard is really gone while order prints wizard remained unchanged.

I can't find the Web Publishing Wizard in the task pane in explorer... Does anyone have this problem with the Vista Inspirat 2 Bricopack?
Everything else seems to be there... Order Prints Online, Set as Desktop Background when an image is selected, ...
Starting this wizard manually is a little reckless... and doesn't work for me.
