ffmpeg is not required to view movies, all it does is create the thumbnail from the movie.

You need to have shell access to install the ffmpeg binary or have a windows server.

http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/index.html -< the install docs are in the README

http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Installation_Requirements#ffmpeg

http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Modules:ffmpeg

We have a couple of prebuild binaries:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7130&package_id=14464
&
http://langleycom.com/gallery_download/

Just as photos. You might be limited in adding the movie depending on the size of the movie. So you might have to FTP the movie to the server and use the local server method to add the movie.
The you will have to edit the movie to give it the proper size, You will be able to change the thumb as well.

Install and activate the Thumbnail Manager module. It will give you a thumbnail of the item it can't create thumbs for like audio and movies.
also you will have to tell gallery how to display the movie with the MIME Maintenance module.
In that module you will have to set the MIME type for the movie and if Gallery should play it inline or not.
You will have to tell Gallery how big the movie is as well with the edit movie page.

I set the MIME wmv as viewable in the MIME mintainance plugin.
I can upload a movie.wmv, but when I click on it I am asked to download it.
How could I view it directly online within gallery?
Some where I read that I should resize the movie, but I don't know how.
I found the size option, and now it WORKS!

Thanks.
