Permissions confusion

I've been searching the FAQ's and forums for an answer to this but can't seem to find a solution.

I want to create an album that a user can upload images into, as well as edit and delete images in that album. But I don't want the user to be able to delete that album itself.

I created an album and set it as owned by admin - and granted [core]Add sub-item and [core]Edit item as well as [core]Delete Item to the user within that album.

The problem is granting "[core]Delete Item" not only gives them permission to delete items within the album, it also gives them permission to delete the album itself. Shouldn't the album be considered an item in the upper level album and be affected by the "[core]Delete Item" permissions there instead?

Is there a way to create an album that a user can add and delete items from without giving them permission to delete the album itself?
