joomla-community builder-G2: user cant see or upload to his album

Hello, I guess i'm missing something, but I've tried fooling with all the options that look relevant. I'm using G2 through joomla, and i have joomla set up with community builder.

When logged in as admin, I can see and edit galleries that belong to the user.

I enabled 'user album', so when a registered user goes to the gallery, they see the link that lets them create an album, but then they never see an edit link, and infact, cannont see their album at all. Users are only ever able to see the admin's album.

I tried useing the url from the admins add item page, but got a 'youre not allowed' message.

What gives?
