My hand is already melting, and will fall off if I have to do this manually.

Any tools, scripts, or pointers?

Cheers,

I'm currently investigating this, but would love a pointer...

Local Server Upload Paths

Specify the legal directories on the local server where a user can store files and then upload them into Gallery using the Upload from Local Server feature. The paths you enter here and all the files and directories under those paths will be available to any Gallery user who has upload privileges, so you should limit this to directories that won't contain sensitive data (eg. /tmp or /usr/ftp/incoming)

Even uploading this way is pretty slow when you're talking LOTS of photos. You don't have the upload issue, but the images are all copied over to the folder on the server (unless you use the symlink option).

I'm looking for a good way to add 5000 images to my home server. We're dumping iPhoto because it can't handle the heat.

Note: I cut off my upload 1/2 way through and now I'm getting and error on all my gallery pages...so, be careful if you try to do them all at once.

I must be missing something. Can anyone that knows, comment here on whether or not a solution exists to import large photo libraries, and auto create the folder structures?

Yesterday after I posted, I was able to upload all 5000 images. They were all in a single folder however. I believe I'm using the latest version of gallery. The errors I got before were fixed by repairing the tables in the gallery2 database.

Yea, I saw your post, which is encouraging, but is missing the critical piece for me.. which is "auto creation of folders", since I all of my photos setup in a complex hiearchy.

I can't possibly be the only person that needs this?? Can someone please help me understand if this feature is indeed NOT available... or is?

Thanks much,

yes, the "add item from server" method also generates sub-albums (= directories) as needed.
