Hi guys,

I'm new to the Gallery2 community so forgive me if I say anything obvious or have missed anything!

Just a quick one this really - I was looking for functionality to print from Gallery2 to a UK print shop and have been following the discussion on a mod for Gallery1 to enable FOTOWIRE printing.

Can anyone tell me if there is a module or modification for Gallery2 to allow the same thing? I had a quick search but could not find any reference to one.

If there is not then I have actually (by way of a teach myself project) created a small module based on the ShutterFly module which works to print to fotowire. I can post this if it will be of any use to anyone, though I should like to have a go at tidying it up first as it is my first G2 module so is probably quite sloppy!

Let me know what you guys think, or if this has already been done!

Cheers,

Mark.

I don't think there is, this question was asked a little bit a go and I had said that I would help in translating the g1 module (+cleanup) but I have had no time since that and didn't release a module for gallery 2.

You should probably post your mod, I'm sure it'll help a bunch of people :)

Awesome :) Glad my module will help and that I hadn't missed an existing module and duplicated effort!

I'll hopefully be able to tidy it up a bit and post it some time next week.

I completely understand the whole lack of time issue - there just aren't enough hours in the day! This one was driven by necessity though and when you need something it's amazing how much time you can *create*. ;-)

Thanks for the opinion and the support Termitenshort!

Mark.

Hi Jon,

It's still on my list to do the tidy up. Should be able to get it up by next weekend - hope it will help!

Cheers,

Mark.

That's very generous Termitenshort. I will see how I get on and might take you up on that if it starts to take me too long.

I think I'm mostly there - just want to tidy up the code a little. I basically started with the Shutterfly module and modified it for my own needs - so I need to make sure there is nothing in there that doesn't need to be and that all the functionality works :)

I'll keep you all up to date on this thread!

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi guys,

Apologies for the long delay between posts. I'm happy to say that I've finally had the time to finish tidying up the code and sorting it all out. I'll upload the module within the next few days all things permitting.

An issue I'm having, which I'm wondering if anyone has the answer to:

The FotoWire submission system works with a URL query string where FN=[photo location], TN=[thumbnail location] etc. Does anyone know if there is a quantity field? Currently the quantities in the cart are not conveyed to the FotoWire Cart.

Cheers guys!

Hi guys,

Well, this isn't finished yet but I tend to have bursts of development followed by some periods of not having time. I thought I'd post this beta version (0.0.3) for a little bit of feedback and so that those of you desperate for this functionality can get something to whet your appetites.

Issues so far:
- How do I get a printer picture next to the link to print with photowire!
- Sometimes I get an XML error from the FotoWire site. Unsure whether this is my code or their site.
- Is posting a form the best way to do this? I notice shutterfly uses SOAP but I'm not up to speed enough yet to know whether I could use this for FotoWire.
- Quantity cannot be conveyed to FotoWire - I think this needs to be addressed at their end.

I may have to communicate with FotoWire about some of these.

Cheers,

Mark.

P.s. I hope I've posted this in the right place and such.

Hello mtudor, first of all, great job and thank you on behalf of those people in need for this functionality :-)

Answers:
- You can't unless you modify the icon pack manually or have the user use this: http://gallery.menalto.com/node/52513
- Dunno :-)
- Yes and also, updating the codex with your contribution here: http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:User_Contributions#Modules create a new tab entry with a link to the file and to this forum discussion thread :-)
- Probably.

See you !

Hi guys,

I've been writing the original G1 fotowire module. I'm happy somebody is about to bring this functionality to G2 - *very* long time ago I wanted to do it myself, however, I just don't have the time anymore to sit for hours behind the PC...

Anyway, just installed and tried it out. We possibly might run into trouble, as fotowire has merged with silverwire and silverwire just got bought by HP
http://www.silverwire.com/news/news_060606.php

At least right now, I can't connect to fotowire print service with the module.

Cheers,

Nick

Edit: just a little hint. if you want to find out, how fotowire handles numbers of pictures, use their program, downloadable from http://www.fotowire.com/home/html/download.htm and a network sniffer. You should be able to see what the client sends. At least, that's how I did it in the first version.

Edit 2: now the service works fine! they seem to be working on their machines;-)
Further, I found the httptracer program I was using: http://gallery.menalto.com/files/httptracer.zip

Edit 3: you seem to have hardcoded your gallery's URI. At least I get here: http://photos.markandhelen.co.uk/main.php when I click "back to gallery" ;-)

I understand that feeling! Originally I wrote this module as I needed a way to submit photos myself, but I'm glad I could bring it to the G2 world. I actually looked at your work on G1 Fotowire when doing this Nick, so thanks for that!

Fingers crossed they won't change anything. Have you spoken with them re: the gallery1 plugin Nick. Are they aware that we interface with them?

Thanks for that! And the link to the HTTP sniffer. I will try and give that a go sometime soon!

Oops! Will change that - but at least I might get a few more hits... that's really what I want given the state of some of the photos on my gallery *laughs*

Cheers,

Mark.

Also please see:

I hope your module becomes an official module at some point such that we can maintain and upgrade it for API upgrades etc.
