[map module] configuration error

If I try to make any changes to the map module config, I get "There was a problem processing your request.", and under "get via map settings" next to the zoom level it says "Please specify an interger between 0 and 17". No matter what I enter, it does not save the changes and gives me the error again.
Any ideas why Im doing wrong?

Its map module 0.5.0g and gallery 2.1.1

Ive noticed that when I uninstall and re-install the map module, I am able to make configuration changes once. After that I get the error I posted above.
However, if I make any changes.. Well, the only changes ive tried to make are to change the default zoom level and location, and change the map to hybrid. it doesn't matter which change I make, it no longer displays the map when try to view it. I just get a grey background and at the top says "loading, please wait"

Also, after poking around inthe database for a while I noticed that it changes the map type and a few other settings to "array" Thats why its not displaying the map. Any idea what is causing that?

Could you provide a link to your site or some credential to take a look at this ?

I'm unable to reproduce because I've made loads of changes on my installs for the next release ... :-)
