Can Two Gallery versions share albums G2.0 and g2.1

I have G2.1 on the website, but am interested to check out and play with user contributed themes etc, some of which don't work with G2.1.
Also I know how to play with themes in G2.0, but not in G2.1 which seem to need more techy knowledge, and I am not quite sure what or where to get tutorials, or even if they can be done in Windows. (I don;t have linux yet)

I suppose I could just install the G2.0 as a different gallery in my site, pointing to the same albums. I wonder if that would mess things up or if it would even work.

It is easy to upgrade a theme to 2.1.:

Golly and it is only that theme.inc file that needs to be changed.

I have looked at the instructions you pointed me to and checked out one of the themes, to make sure I can understand it.

Ok I am trying to upgade dbstyle theme from G2 to G2.1 and have followed those directions but when I open the Site admin/All Themes page it tells me dbstyle is an "incompatible theme"

Is there something else I need to do?
