I recently upgraded to Gallery2 2.1-rc-1b. Going through my albums, I started getting some 403 Forbidden errors when the thumbnails were loading. Searching these forums, I've come across two concepts. First, some people seem to have problems with 403 forbidden because of their Apache config - mod_dosevasive settings. Some other people have problems with permissions.
I contacted my host, and they didn't have any issues with 403 forbidden errors. I then found this post:
chmod the folder gallery2 is in to 755, chmod gallery2 755, chmod index.php, main.php, install/ , install/index.php all 755
usually it's like that. maybe something went wrong on your host.
I had the files and folders set to 755, except for "chmod the folder gallery2 is in". For me, this would be /www/ (ie www.dryfly.ca/gallery/ ).
So changed /www from 750 to 755. It seems to be working okay now. Now I have a couple of questions stemming from this. /public_html seems to be some type of mirror of /www, but their permissions are different. Is this normal? Should I change /public_html to 755 too? And I want to confirm that it is safe to have /www (and/or /public_html) set to 755. And if anyone can check out me gallery and let me know if it works okay for them...
