Well how could I do this using the default "permissions" options built in the software. The documentation is confusing on this subject.

you can't do it with default permissions.
the guest account is for .... guests = anonymous users = not logged in users.
password protected albums is only available as a module, as ckdake points out.

create a guest user, remove all of the Everyone permissions from the top level album, Add in permissions for the Guest user to view, comment, print, etc.

I had the same problem with that password module as stated by the others. When activated I am prompted for a username and passwrd.

Isn't being prompted for a username and password what you're asking for?

Yes, but in the setup you are not given the oppertunity to put in a username just a password. So when I tried to access the album I am prompted for a username as well. I tried a few combinations of usernames but it wont work.

I'm not familiar at all with that module so I'd recommend the other thing I suggested:
Quote:
create a guest user, remove all of the Everyone permissions from the top level album, Add in permissions for the Guest user to view, comment, print, etc.
