Adding a link to the front page (customizing front page -- pre-login)

I'd like to be able to post a link to a word file on the front page, visible before logging in (or even after...). The idea is I'd like to give instructions in the file for people to register and upload their pictures easily (applet isn't easy to find if you don't know to look for it). In G1.x, it was pretty easy to just edit the page, but I can't even figure out where I'm supposed to be working in G2. Ideas? |

I wouldn't mind knowing how to do this as well. I'm trying to add a contact link into the top nav by the log-in link. I have no idea where to find this. I've customized the rest of the site using a theme and I'm stumped.
