Linking one image to multiple albums?

I'm wondering if there is a way to link one image to multiple albums. For example; let say I had a picture of a green car linked in many albums, then I updated a color corrected car to blue and re-uploaded it. Could the updated image be referenced by various albums be automatically updated to show the new blue car?

G2 has 'create link' which creates a new item using the same data file. There is a user contributed module for "reupload".. try your luck with both together..
