I am trying to improve the performance of my g2b3 gallery.
I wonder if +FollowSymlinks is really necessary to be inserted into .htaccess by default. I am not using symlinks in my gallery and turned off symlinks in my apache config for this directory.
I remember from apache documentation that followsymlinks requires apache to check each file to see if it's a symlink or not, every time it is accessed. This can be very expensive for older servers. (like mine)
Perhaps, you could add an option so an admin can turn this option off. (I would have it on by default to be safe)
