having a "how to use this gallery" window popup

upon a visitors first visit ... whereby it just pops up an information screen about how to navigate around etc .... that im sure would be simple enough, but having it so it only happens the first time a PC visits the site would be even cooler ... i presume youd need to send a cookie to the recipient machine to do it?

that make any sense ?
