Does anybody have any inscructions on how to fix this as it wont let me continue?

Many Thanks

It's the mysql module for your Apache ... read out more on Apache homepage (http://www.apache.org/) or your operating system homepage for installation packages.

isn't it the mysql module for php? you need to compile php with mysql support.. see php.net

Thats what I thought I did --

When I configured php I ran this --

./configure \
--enable-magic-quotes \
--with-gd \
--with-gettext \
--with-mysql

then make and install.

I don't know if the php.ini file looks the same on Linux or not, never installed PHP support on a Linux dist.

But if is you need to unmark;

;extension=php_mysql.dll

so it looks like this;

extension=php_mysql.dll

Maybe that will solve your problem... Maybe not!

I tried to even specify the path to mysql --

./configure \
--enable-magic-quotes \
--with-gettext \
--with-mysql-dir=/var/lib/mysql

and still not working.

My php.ini says -- "Note that MySQL and ODBC support is now built in, so no dll is needed for it."

Its proberly something I am doing wrong but don't know what.

Here is my php.ini.

[PHP]

;;;;;;;;;;;
; WARNING ;
;;;;;;;;;;;
; This is the default settings file for new PHP installations.
; By default, PHP installs itself with a configuration suitable for
; development purposes, and *NOT* for production purposes.
; For several security-oriented considerations that should be taken
; before going online with your site, please consult php.ini-recommended
; and http://php.net/manual/en/security.php.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; About this file ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
;
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
;
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
;
; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
;
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
; | bitwise OR
; & bitwise AND
; ~ bitwise NOT
; ! boolean NOT
;
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
;
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
;
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
;
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
;
; All the values in the php.ini-dist file correspond to the builtin
; defaults (that is, if no php.ini is used, or if you delete these lines,
; the builtin defaults will be identical).

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Language Options ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; Enable the PHP scripting language engine under Apache.

; Allow the <? tag. Otherwise, only <?php and <script> tags are recognized.
; NOTE: Using short tags should be avoided when developing applications or
; libraries that are meant for redistribution, or deployment on PHP
; servers which are not under your control, because short tags may not
; be supported on the target server. For portable, redistributable code,

; Output buffering allows you to send header lines (including cookies) even
; after you send body content, at the price of slowing PHP's output layer a
; bit. You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output
; buffering functions. You can also enable output buffering for all files by
; setting this directive to On. If you wish to limit the size of the buffer
; to a certain size - you can use a maximum number of bytes instead of 'On', as
; a value for this directive (e.g., output_buffering=4096).
output_buffering = Off

; You can redirect all of the output of your scripts to a function. For
; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character
; encoding will be transparently converted to the specified encoding.
; Setting any output handler automatically turns on output buffering.
; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini
; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start().
; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script
; is doing.
; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler"
; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression".

; Transparent output compression using the zlib library
; Valid values for this option are 'off', 'on', or a specific buffer size
; to be used for compression (default is 4KB)
; Note: Resulting chunk size may vary due to nature of compression. PHP
; outputs chunks that are few hundreds bytes each as a result of
; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better
; performance, enable output_buffering in addition.
; Note: You need to use zlib.output_handler instead of the standard
; output_handler, or otherwise the output will be corrupted.

This is all great for PHP 4.x.x...
But I have the same trouble with php 5.0.5

Since mysql support is built in I am a bit stumped...

I have tried searching for the answer.. but am stuck..

On thing is my mysql server is not the localhost..

I have setup a user for the IP of the Gallery2 server..

Anyone got any ideas?

I have the same problem as Jeff here, I compiled php 5.0.5 with mysql support (--with-mysqli=path/to/mysql_config) see here: http://www.diagon-music.com/php.php

Still I get this message in step 5. I've looked all over this forum for a solution, but nothing helped. I certainly found some clues, but nothing seems to work. I've made fresh installations of everything (mysql & php) a few times. Any suggestions? Please help me!

you've got mysqli, not mysql.

g2 doesn't yet work with mysql.
you'd have to change a few instances of "mysqlt" to "mysqli".
in the installer:
install/steps/DatabaseSetupStep.class a few times
modules/core/classes/GalleryStorage.class
modules/core/classes/GalleryStorage/DatabaseStorage/MySqlDatabaseStorage.class

i guess that's about it. if that's it and it works for you, please submit your changed files and we can add native mysqli support to G2.

it doesn't appear to work...
I used mysqli because I was having trouble installing and read somewhere that you couldn't add mysql support to php if you had mysql 4.1.0 or higher, then you had to use mysqli. Any further ideas?

of course you can. i run mysql MySQL 4.1.10a and one test site and MySQL 4.1.12a on another with G2.

well this is what I get when I trie to use --with-mysql instead of --with-mysqli:
"configure: error: Cannot find MySQL header files under /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config.
Note that the MySQL client library is not bundled anymore."

This is MySQL 4.1.14, I've also tried the 5.0.12 beta, with the same resault...

Should I try switching to PHP 4?

This really isn't a PHP or MySQL compiling site... but that error seems to imply that its looking for some mysql info in /usr/local/mysql, but is it actually THERE?

Like I've been trying to say, if I use --with-mysqli this way, it works! But G2 doesn't support it apparently. However if I use --with-mysql, I get that error. Even though I point to the same dir in both cases. I don't know what mysqli finds but mysql doesn't.

Well my friend figured out the problem, I compiled it again using both mysql and mysqli. Check it out http://www.diagon-music.com/php.php

I found out it had to be like this: --with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql/
I'm kind of embarrassed, I only tried as far as --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql/bin/
Thanks for all your help, I hope this helps someone else along the way!

It is a little odd that you are compiling your own mysql, php and/or apache. I suspect you wouldn't have these problems if you used the package managment system for your distribution :)
