I've searched the forums and have found 2 different add-ons. However, I haven't gotten either of them to work. I'd actually like to install them both. Has anyone got them running? If so, can I get a copy of the config. files?

Appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

I'm using the gallery_new block by <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://sourceforge.net/projects/gallerynewblock/" TARGET="_blank">dberansky</A><!-- BBCode End -->. You can have it track which albums contain the latest additions. I'm still learning new quirks and perks of this tool.

You can see a demo at <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://www.sandersonline.org" TARGET="_blank">SandersOnline.org</A><!-- BBCode End -->. I have it set to monitor the latest 5 albums, but it seems to have a bug/feature of dropping ones older than some cache expiration or session.(?) I'm also trying to get it to update more frequently.

It's easy to install and it has an admin page for customizing.

BTW, what were the two add-ons you found pbaden?

I was trying to check out that site but it seems to be down at the moment. And I looked through online and the doc for a readme, but can this be used if you don't use anything like postnuke? I tried putting it in my gallery folder and just get the blank page. I started going through the php file to see if I had to edit anything else to get it working. I haven't been able to get this 'latest' thing going yet. I know it's gone back and forth between my request for albums and subalbums, and with the latest images. Beckett and pixelchimp were gonna get around to it at some point when they had time.

Hope it helps

Is that the one that just does the top level albums?

If not, i'll check it out. I know it'll take more coding than what is out there. If someone does find it out, we can move the topic to this thread again. my 2nd to last post talks about what features would rock

Sorry I'm currently screwing my site up at the moment  I'll have it back to normal soon I hope.

To the best of my knowledge, the Gallery_New block is for PostNuke.

ah, that's what it looked like. I figured you were working on your site b/c of changing errors. I always hope no one is looking at my sites when I do that

I did try that one. If you look at <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://www.baden5.com" TARGET="_blank">My Web Site</A><!-- BBCode End -->

you'll see what's happening. I can't figure it out?

It looks like the code was pasted into a WYSIWYG editor, so that it was all converted into HTML.. instead of the code being put into the actual source of the file. Did you copy and paste the code? Or did you just upload it as is and it messed up?

Indeed it was! I've fixed the code now, and I can see that it is running the script... but I'm getting errors. Any ideas? Thanks very much for your help!!!

Boy is this frustrating. I get error messages unless I chmod /albums/.users to 777 or 755, but that can't be right. Even if I do that, it doesn't increment the counters. Is there anyone out there willing to help????

What are some of your errors?

My permissions look a bit like this:
drwxr-xr-x 2 nobody nobody 4.0k Nov 30 20:03 .users
and its contents are 644

Just FYI in my gallery dir:
-rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 539 Nov 27 22:48 .htaccess

Trying to be helpful...

Warren - I really appreciate your efforts and willingness to help.

My permissions are the same. I noticed that all of the folders and files were not in my name so I chown'd them and they are now. Now I'm not getting any more error messages, but the scripts still aren't working.

http://www.baden5.com is the site... scroll to the bottom and you'll see the scripts.

iframe isn't the problem... go to http://www.baden5.com/phpbb2/modules/gallery/top10albums.php.

If I go into the gallery and click on a few pictures, and then go to the url above, I get this error:

Warning: fopen("/usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/baden5.com/httpdocs/albums/.users/userdb.dat.0", "w") - Permission denied in /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/baden5.com/httpdocs/phpbb2/modules/gallery/platform/fs_unix.php on line 53

If you do a refresh the error goes away, but there is no data. I can't get this darn thing to work!

First thing I'd do is upgrade to the latest version to eliminate all previous bugs. 1.3.1 is quite a bit old now. I have seen your errors in this forum or the old mail-archives before. I hate the search engine for this forum so I don't bother looking too much, but it's here somewhere.

I don't know about upgrading... I've added a lot of mods and I'm not sure what will happen. Plus I don't think this particular mod works with 1.3.2. Are you using the mod with 1.3.2?

I don't use this yet because it's not configured to plug into PostNuke as a block or module. I would have to do some hacking on it and I'm not sure it's worth my trouble when I already have a working one doing sort of the same thing.

The only thing you need to worry about in your upgrading is if you have changed any code in you gallery directory files. I have changed three files so far and I keep a diff file on them to patch a new CVS if I notice their change by just checking their dates first.

diff -u [modified] [new] > file.diff
patch -u file.diff [new]

I keep the diff files around and the modified file too just for backup.

Another method would be to symlink the modified files into the gallery directory. This way you wont need to worry about overwriting the modified file. Problem is... if there is a new change to those files you may need to look into the above method to patch your original symlinked files.

Works for me

How generic are these blocks? I use GEEKLOG which is similar to POSTNUKE. Though they have similar blocks they don't work well in my environment and the authors don't provide support.
Thanks..
