Why does Gallery convert dashes (-) to underscores(_)?

Is there any way to keep Gallery from converting dashes to underscores in filenames? My naming system uses a very specific format with dashes representing field separators and underscores representing spaces. For example: 20040324-001-Location_Name-Subject_Description-DWC768.jpg Although the underscores don't really matter cosmetically, it makes it a pain in the butt if I want to re-upload new versions of photos (changing a watermark, updating IPTC info, etc.). I can't just drop files into place...I have to run a script to convert all the dashes to underscores first, then drop them into place on the Web server before regenerating thumbs. Now if only IPTC was fully supported... |
