Ok Guys and Gals, the next version of my Gallery Skins is available for download. Right now I'm only offering them in ZIP files. At the moment I have 6 or 7 available and will add more as I get time.

http://www.pownuke.com/galleryskins/samples/downloads/

There is a link for each screen cap that contains the skin files.

Download, unzip, upload the files into your skins folder of your gallery.

To Change Gallery Skins:
Now there are two ways to enable the new skin in your installed Gallery.

First Method - Open the config.php file located in the main gallery folder and edit this line. This is probably the easiest. As soon as you upload the file to your server the skin change is instant.

$gallery->app->skinname = "jade001";

Very Important notice that the name is exactly the same as in the folder name of the skin and in lowercase. If by chance you type in the name wrong your gallery will just default to the plain (original) settings and your skin will disappear.

Second method is to CHMOD .htaccess, config.php and the folder /setup/ to 755. Then go to your main page and run through the Config Wizard and your new folder will be listed in the Skins area drop down menu for selection. Note: this will not loose any prior settings, you can change these anytime by rerunning the Config Wizard. Then CHMOD .htaccess and config.php to 644 and the folder /setup/ to 400.

=)

Thanks for posting this. I just came to the forum to search and see if there were other skins available. They look great.

Hope to see more in the future.

Ok, a total of 15 new skins are available for download. If you want to give me a hint on what you would like to see for skins, it would make doing these a lot easier.

JadeDragon,
I think these are great! You are making it easy for everybody to have a different look.
What I would like to see is a bit more of the positioning that you have done in some of them. Moving some of the elements arround for a VERY differnt look. Thumb on the right perhaps?
Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Dave

Personally I like the layout of coppermine galleries but the need to use a database has turned me off of them. Gallery is great but I would like to be able to have a layout similar to coppermine. Here are a few coppermine galleries that I found on the net.

Just an idea. I don't know if this can be accomplished with skins or involves recoding (not feasable, I know).

What you are asking for layout changes can be done for G2. Unless you are willing to code quite a bit in 1.4.x it is impossible to change this through the current CSS skining system. Once I finish up the basics for 1.4.1 I'll be doing my part helping with G2 skins.

The skins do not change any function or add any code. They are limited to what can be moved around for each element.

I will see if I can get a few more done soon.

Jade, these are fantastic. Thank you!

I am a neophyte when it comes to HTML and CSS. I really appreciate all of your tutorials (though most are over my head :) ) and these skins.

You're welcome!!

It's why I do these skins, so other people who may not know much coding can have a really sleek photo Gallery and not have to worry about learning a bunch of tech stuff.

I've put up a few more, I'm getting into the more complicated designs in (X-treme) folder.

Hi

Just started with Gallery and it looks just the thing. I did love the Extreme001 theme so set it up on my new site. However, I get the following messages on the top of each page:

Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at /home/develop/public_html/gallery/config.php:166) in /home/develop/public_html/gallery/session.php on line 60

Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/develop/public_html/gallery/config.php:166) in /home/develop/public_html/gallery/session.php on line 60

Any idea what I've done wrong?

petervenn, this is most likely caused by some extra linefeeds finding its way into the bottom of the config.php file while manually editing...

So check that file for extra linefeeds or other characters not belonging in there...

:)

I hope you figured out the problem....the skins are built live & tested on my site. I may miss a couple things as I'm doing these as quick as I can. If something is missed please let me know so I can fix it right away.

On that note there are now 27 total additional new skins for download.

If you have any color requests, please give me an idea of what you like. I'm doing these off the top of my head, and although I'm pretty creative I would like other peoples input to give a wider variety of skins.

The more graphic intense the skins the longer it takes (ie: xtreme skins) up to several hours can be invested into one skin, or as in the case of the simple skins only 15-20 minutes to create and upload those.

I love feedback, good or bad, it helps me improve these and work out bugs (several have been noted for future release.)

I'm also linked over in the "Related Websites" box to the left of this site, for quick referal.

Just followed your link and the skins are awesome! I'm inspired :)

As for suggestions, I would say more variety in the horizontal rules and buttons. I love some of the color combinations, but prefer something other than the "bubble buttons". I love the butterfly theme that comes with gallery package and your Valentine theme.

Am I correct in saying that adding left column navigation would be in html_wrap instead of skins? That is the one thing I think many people would like to have.

Just having what you have up to work with is awesome!! I hope to stop back later in the week to download some and play with them.

The extreme themes are very very cool.

Yes, the column navigation, header, and footer require adding code into the html_wrap. Pixel Poet has excellent tutorials for doing this (see top of forum for sticky).

I have thought of doing some "package" graphics (buttons, sidebar, wrapping graphics) to coordinate the users site with a Gallery Skin. I haven't figured out the best way of going about this idea.

I agree that the "bubble" graphics are not for everyone. It is quite easy to expand those into 100% width through the CSS. I will offer additional skins with these settings already in place.

I'm doing my best trying to get a few skins up every couple days as time permits. I'm also trying for a wide variety of skins, so I'm going from one extreme to the other designing these things. Light and fluffy to dark and moody. :P

If been getting a lot of feedback about the Butterfly theme. The butterfly is actually a picture tube from Jasc Paint Shop Pro. I then colorized it and my bar to match. Quick, simple, & cute. *g*

Now I'm filtering alot of the images through AutoFX software's DreamSuite. So the fancy graphics in metal and blades are actually fairly easy to make once I get a raw single color (grey) basic image. Then I just size and chop off a few pieces to make the skin images. After that I create a new skin and wiggle my way through adjusting the width, height, margins, and padding to get things all aligned (this is what takes the most time after the graphics). I also do a shortcut with the text. I copy over the CSS from another simular theme and do a search and replace for the various colors. Then another 5 minutes to zip it all up and upload to the Gallery Skins site to be ready for download.

Another wonderful thing about CSS text you can do a variety of filters, like glow, dropshadow, etc. Just be careful of which CSS tag you place these on. I've found out that some filters placed in certain tags will cause things not to show up, or be very skewed off. Found that out testing the first Dark Skin.

Well there's a couple new skins up in a series called Blade. I'm off for today, but I will try to add some more tomorrow.

I haven't purchased DreamSuite yet, it's on my "wish list". I've never taken the time to look at PSP picture tubes either, will need to do that too.

I think having your base css with packaged graphics would be awesome. And once people read your explanation and see how you do it, maybe you can get some help :) I am sure there are people around here that are graphics gurus.

I have been to pixel poets site, but truthfully, until this version and your skins I have been embedding mostly in phpNuke. Now there isn't such a need to :)

With permision from other third party theme authors I'm starting to create Gallery Skins that can coordinate with your existing site. This is taking a bit longer to get permissions from the owners of the themes, but I feel well worth the effort. These skins are independant of the original third party application and can be used on their own if you wish.

So first off I'm starting with phpBB and thier authors for new skins. One is done others will be coming soon.

http://pownuke.com/galleryskins/samples/downloads/albums.php

These are specific as they will need the wrapper.footer uploaded to your site. If you have customized the wrapper.footer then please copy over the bit of code for the skin. This is important as people see I am giving credit to the original authors the other application authors will allow me to do the same with their skins. This makes everyone happy.

Thanks!
=)

Thank you so much for your butterfly pink header. Love it and using it. Let me know if you want any credits.
