Accidental Upgrade to PHP 5.4.4 stopped G3 working

This is partly a for-the-record post, but also I'd be interested to read if anyone else has experienced this.

I run G3 on a managed VPS with cpanel. I noticed that mySQL was the unsupported 5.0 so I used cpanel to upgrade to 5.1. When this finished, G3 wasn't working. Just a blank page was displayed. Nothing in the logs. A lot of effort by support tracked down that PHP had also been upgraded to 5.4.4, which they said was experimental (although php.net says that it's stable). So they downgraded to 5.3.14 and gallery was working once again.

Now I admit I'm still running G3.0.2 (will upgrade to 3.0.4 shortly) but has anyone else had any experience with PHP 5.4.4? No anti-cpanel rants please.

I did, really. But the annoying thing is that the search won't let you use short terms. I scrolled back through the last couple of months, and still didn't spot this.

So thanks. Wish I'd found this yesterday.

Upgrading would have fixed your issue.
