No photos showing after delete operation gone bad and restore - Files are in var, Items table looks good ??

So I updated to 3.0.3 and everything went well (I'm using GD). I then proceeded to clean things up and deleted one of the two main albums from the root, getting rid of half the gallery. That operation never completed, it just hung there on the delete dialog (I think there was a permission problem with some of the albums and photos being deleted). I tried a couple of times and then realized that it had deleted the wrong files (the other main album). I've cleaned up some of the mess by manually removing from the items table the rows that had to do with the album I was trying to delete and re-uploading the whole var folder with only the files I wanted to keep in albums, resizes and thumbs. The end result is that none of the photos are showing anywhere, no thumbs, no full size. Everything is otherwise working and as expected.

I don't know/understand how the URL is translated into the directory location of the photo to show, so I'm not sure how to figure out what's broken. I can only imagine there's a problem with that file reference system or a permission problem. The var folder I uploaded was from a file download backup so the permissions may have gotten messed up on download, or re-upload.

If it's a permission problem with the var folder, where do I find the correct permissions so I can correct this?

You need to set the file system permissions on the gallery3/var/ directory to +777 recurcivley.
