my images wont upload under password protected directory

i have my gallery 3 installed under a password protected directory and everytime i upload images i get no error it just says done yet nothing shows up. i cant use the album password module cause i have a user management system controling main access to the directory and im trying to avoid double logins. if anyone can help id greatly appreciate it. thanks
