Alrighty, I am having a few issues I would really like to get ironed out.
Quote:
You are using the official Gallery 3.0.3 release, code named Hotlanta
<-- what's installed
First, Yahoo is my host (I know not the best but it is what I use) and here is my server config that G3 gave me:
Host name: hostingprod.com
Operating system: FreeBSD 4.11-YAHOO-20080312
Apache: Unknown
PHP: 5.3.6
MySQL: 5.1.55
Server load: 1.193359375 0.92529296875 0.80224609375
Graphics toolkit: gd
1. So the main issue I have is adding photos. I was able to add some photos from my local machine to the server using the normal add photos, but I am having issues with it now. These are larger files but they are below 5MB.
2. Importing Gallery2 information hangs and when I look at the management consol it tells me it stalled but the log doesn't give me any information, it does create the albums and imports the user IDs but will not import the photos.
3. Adding photos from server add also hangs/stalls and never completes. Again the log file doesn't seem to tell me anything.
4. When I cancle/pause one of these I am somtimes left with empty photo blocks that I have to delete.
5. G3 is extreamly slow. The proccess of deleting a photo takes up to 20 seconds and somtimes it is 10 seconds before it wants me to confirm that I really want the photo deleted.
6 Also, I cannot seem to make an album cover. I assign a photo and it says it works but it just doesn't do it. It is lieing to me, and I am saddened by it.
I am still playing with things but this is the main issues I have for now.
please help, I would love to use this new version as it looks better than g2.

@Yahoo, make sure that you get the Apache version from them. Let us know.

Saddly I just found out they use a "Proprietary Version 1.3xxx"
Which means I am screwed I assume since technicly G3 doesn't support anything below 2 correct?

You can stay with G2. But I would consider finding a new host as Apache 1 is not supported anymore and has some security issues.

Yeah I know, I just hate to change to somthing new specially because I have other people that use the email side of that, and I get a decent price. What is a good host with unlimited storage?
This is the plan I currently have: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/details

Everybody has their own opinions on this. You can check http://gallery.menalto.com/node/88391 for previous opinions on the issue. The only shared hosting listed is dreamhost (later struck from the list). I used them for a long while. Then my site got extremely slow. They said I'd hit some limit (that they wouldn't define) and wouldn't tell me how much I exceeded it by; their recommendation was that I stop letting search engines index the site to slow down traffic. (Ummm, thanks, but no thanks.) They also had way more downtime than I was comfortable with (one or two days a month). I ended up leaving them. May work for you though; guess it depends on the resources your site requires.
Looking at the link you posted, it doesn't seem that you're really getting an especially good deal if you're paying Yahoo! $9.95/month. (It's not a bad deal, just nothing spectacularly great either.) Almost all shared hosts now offer "unlimited" storage and many cost less than you're currently paying so you'll still get a "decent price." (The range tends to be between $5.95 and $9.95 a month.)
The only feature that really stands out for Yahoo is the unlimited email; most shared hosts are going to limited your mailboxes, either by box size or by number of messages (or both). Having said all of that, I don't know that any shared hosting is going to be much faster (performance-wise) than what you currently have with Yahoo!; at some point, they all gauge your site's traffic and clamp down on bandwidth usage. Differences may be marginal, at best.
If you DO decide to move to another host, you could transfer over the mailboxes and (except for possibly changing login settings and possibly down time of maybe a few hours), the email users wouldn't really know the difference.

- or, as floridave stated above, you could stick to G2 - It's an established, very viable product, and will continue to be.

Yeah I do like yahoo, and they are my domain registrar also so it is very convenient.
I am still using G2 for my photos, I just want to use some cooler looing themes and what not, and G3 seemed to offer some neat things. I suppose I will just sit back and use g2 for now until Yahoo decides to upgrade, they will eventually when enough people complain.
As for speed, my site in general is wicked fast, it doesn't get much traffic, the speed issue I had was importing 4MB jpegs into G3 which I am almost positive is attributed to having an outdated version of Apache.
I do how ever have my family and others using the email which would be my big concern for changing. Yahoo business mail is very good in my opinion and having unlimited storage and like 500+ accounts including linked accounts is a nice feature I like and use a lot.
Thanks for all the input! I do appreciate it greatly.

So here is the exact specs from Yahoo for the webserver in case anyone was wondering:
Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.8.28 OpenSSL/0.9.6b mod_fastcgi/2.4.2

First google search for Apache 1.2.37 yields a security issue:
http://httpd.apache.org/security/vulnerabilities_13.html
They don't even have documentation for the 1.x version:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/
1.3.37: Released July 28, 2006
So much for keep up with the times.
It's not as if this software costs anything, like Gallery, its Free!
