Photos from a server share?

Hello sorry for the noob question here. I am looking at building out a gallery3 system but I already have a Buffalo NAS terrastation that has 400 GB of photos and tree structure. Is there a method for telling gallery to use that as the location where the photos remain stored?

Would like to keep it simple to add new photos and such.
Or do I have to FTP all these folders and files to the (local gallery3 server)

By the way I have installed the add from server mod, but cannot seem to add the path of \\server\rootfolder.
Cannot seem to find any documentation on the path requirements as well.
But I think this will just duplicate the files on the gallery server (correct?) I would like the files to remain on the server.

You would need to mount the Buffalo share to the local server to use the addserver module. You wont be able to use an existing folder structure, and have the gallery just use it. You would have to do the serveradd module, to import them in to the Gallery. You could have the gallery var folder on the NAS perhaps though, to use it as a storage area.

If this makes any sense, you should be good to go. If not, I'm sorry, but that's all I can offer.
