Cant upload photo/album not writable

Got the gallery set up today and had no problems adding pictures and albums. I tried adding a watermark and when I went to upload the pic, the upload window turned into a bunch of random coding/characters. Now everytime I try and upload any photo it says "unable to process this photo" and "album '_____' is not writable" when trying to add a new album.

I need help ASAP as this is for a client of mine.

Re-installed everything and it seems to be working now. Still getting the weird coding/characters when uploading a watermark though. I did realize I only get it when trying to upload a .PNG for the watermark. Is there a way to fix that? Trying to use a transparent background image and .GIF is just inferior compared to .PNG
