Get rid of them all!
I finally cleaned out the album folder. There were 306,000 albums and only 83 of them were actually mine. Whats the est way to go about purging all those gallery entries from the database?
A better approach is to figure out how you got hacked, close that hole and then you can get rid of the unneeded albums by simply restoring the site to what it was before the hacking.
My plan is migration to 3.x but i dont want to migrate 306k albums. I'm in a shared environment. It seems that someone/thing is still dropping random albums into one of my folders. I put the gallery in maintenance mode to shut them down. At any rate I guess I'll just ditch the import idea and just add the images again, they're already on the server so it wont be that big of an issue.

You are missing the important point which is that someone is adding things to your webspace without your say so.
IOW, you have been hacked and what you migrate to, or how you migrate anything, should be a distant secondary consideration over figuring out how that happened and preventing it from happening again.
Follow this guide to clean your sites. There are no shortcuts.
If you do not throughly verify and clean out the sites as well as identify the original exploit or at least close all potential exploits, as sure as the sun will be up in the morning, the hacker will be back in and possibly enraged.
Make sure you inform your web host immediately given that you on a shared site.
Only after the hole has been plugged should you even begin to think about far less important things like whether or how to migrate anything.
