[Beginer] How can I upload a set of pictures with ftp or webdav

Dear All,

I am new with Gallery and I just install it for a friend.
HOwever I have a important need. We need to upload a set of picture in one time. We would like to upload it wia a ftp or webdav client.

1) I first create a new album called album1. Now I can see that a new folder has been create root/var/album/album1
2) Then, I ftp to 6 images to root/var/album/album1/
3) Finaly I return to my website and I can not see those picture the the album1

Then I discover the modue webdav
1) I installed it
2) I create a folder root/webdav/gallery and I placed my 6 picture here

At the end, I did not understand how works the module webdav, and finally I absolutely do not understand how to upload a set of image and to have it ready in a album.

May some one can instruct me?

Last question:
Is it easy to create it own theme?
