Child folders not displayed in Server Add dialog

If I have just var/uploads as the authorised path for Server Add it doesn't show any child folders underneath this in the server upload dialog. I can click on var/uploads and it will upload the entire contents, including the uploads folder itself so that the other uploaded folders are its child folders. So I then have to Organise the albums to fix this. Another approach has been to add a new authorised path in Admin each time and delete it later, but this is tedious.

Is this how it is supposed to be, or have I misunderstood how SA is supposed to work? I have the impression that the server add dialog should show all the folders under var/uploads automatically without having to add them as authorised paths manually. I had raised this before but not really got a response.

If the Server Add upload dialog is supposed to show automatically all the child folders of authorised paths, what might be preventing it from doing so?

What happens when you double-click on "uploads"?

Where is the icon for an embarrassed look when you need it?

Yes, that works, thanks. You know I've never seen that referred to or documented anywhere. Is it?

No, it's probably not in the documentation and probably should be :)

I also think, IMO, that the interface should change to make it more apparent to dig down the folder structure. It's one of those things where once you know it, it's not a big deal, but I do recall it causing me frustration when I first tried it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. The reason I didn't think to double-click is that it's not a normal G3 mode of operation. If I had thought about it I may have assumed that it would simply upload the selected folder, which is not what I really want in the case of var/uploads.

undagiga,
If you can can you come up with some wording that is appropriate for users to understand this better and I can add it to the documentation.

I will add a ticket for a better user experience as well.

On the basis that the codex is by the community for the community ... I've made some changes to this codex page. Please check that they're accurate and clear. Feel free to amend.

I think a single-click approach to expanding a directory would be more consistent with how the rest of G3 operates. I.e. if I click (once) on "uploads" it will expand and show the files and or folders that will be uploaded, with the option to select some of those files and folders instead.

You can't upload directly to/from the gallery3/var/ directory or any sub-directory of it.
