Hi new to gallery3, but i have been using galley2 for a couple of years

I imported my galley2 to gallery3 with no errors, but whenever I try to organize an album i get "an error occured. Consult your system administrator" error dialog box, Ive attached the error message

originally i was running it on lighttpd...but as that was unsaported i installed and configured for apache 2, i still get the same error

system is as below

Version: 3.0.1 (Menlo Park)
Albums: 60
Photos: 3381
Operating system: Linux 2.6.35-27-generic-pae
Apache: Apache/2.2.16 (Ubuntu)
PHP: 5.3.3-1ubuntu9.3
MySQL: 5.1.49-1ubuntu8.1
Server load: 0.26 0.11 0.07
Graphics toolkit: imagemagick

other weird things are, i can't upload more than one image at a time...its says it work ok, but only the first image selected uploads...and I also can't upload via Windows Live Photo Gallery pulgin...once again it says it worked ok...

i'm logged on as the owner of the images/album and it dosn't matter if they are images that were imported or uploaded

any help would be appreciated

First, grab the latest, experimental code from git
http://github.com/gallery/gallery3/zipball/master

That has a new organizer module in it.

For the uploading of photos, try this:
FAQ: Why do I get a Error #2038 when I try to upload more than one item

If that doesn't work, post a link to phpinfo:
FAQ: How do I create a phpinfo page?

I'm having the same problem. However, I could not fix it. Here's what I did:

1. I saw that this thread referred to gallery version 3.0.1 and now the newest version available is 3.0.2 so instead of getting the experimental version, I first upgraded to 3.0.2. This didn't help, I was still getting the error message saying "an error occured. Consult your system administrator"

2. So I got the experimental code and tried to start the upgrade from 3.0.2 to experimental (3-4a20822), but my index.php/upgrader page indicated that there was nothing to upgrade.

The "organize" module in my gallery is version 4, but I'm still getting that error message. I only get this error if I try to organize a specific album, which has more than 1000 pictures in it. Could this be the reason? Too many pics...?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll need to try the latest version of the organize module with that many photos in an album.

Thanks for looking into it. In the meantime, is there any "manual" way I could split this album into a few smaller ones so that I could move the pics around? I mean, could this be done by manipulating the files on the server or making some changes right in the database?

Hi, I'm having similar issue with Organize (v4) module not working in IE9, after a fresh install of Gallery 3.0.2. I've been running Gallery 3.0.0 without problems on both IE9 and Firefox browsers. Organize (v4) works just fine with Firefox but definetly not at all in IE9, (not sure yet about IE8 or IE7). The problems in IE9 are -
- album menus don't open,
- only one album can be viewed on opening Organize,
- when trying to move a pic, it throws an error message - "An error occured. Consult your system administrator",
- the close button doesn't work.

I tried the latest version from github, but same problems with IE9.
Of course I can always switch my browser to Firefox, but would be nice if there was a fix availabe for IE9.
Otherwise Gallery is fantastic software. Thanks guys.

I finally tested. I imported a 1000 photos into an album and was able to use the organize module just fine. It does take a little bit to load initially and to move the first few photos around, but after that it was pretty snappy for dealing with a 1000 items.

I've just upgraded to the 3.0.2 code and I'm still having this issue. It is becoming pretty urgent for me. Please, tell me how I can move images between albums manually? Is it just enough to move the files between directories on the server?

No, there isn't a manual way to move things around. What browser are you using? Try Chrome and Firefox. If using IE, try changing the "compatibility mode" setting, I can't remember if turning it on or off worked for someone else.

If none of that works, can you PM me a link and login credentials and I'll try to see if I can move a photo or get more information.

@stencel,

Got your PM. It works for me using Chrome on XP. I'm betting it'll work using Firefox on XP as well as Chrome and Firefox on Vista and probably Win7. For IE, check the "compatibility" mode setting. If it's on, turn it off, if it's off, turn it on.

@stencel, regarding your last PM. I moved all those photos out of that album. To make life easier on yourself, just use Firefox or Chrome :)

I still can't get it working, I've tried all browsers that I have on three computers at home :-)

Anyway, BIG thank-you for moving the pictures :-) Now - even though the problem still exists - at least it doesn't get in the way :-)

Perhaps you have anti-virus software getting in the way or something else. Depending on your level of technical skill, perhaps try booting up a live CD of Ubuntu or Knoppix or some other Linux distro to rule the operating system out completely.

I have the same problems as Jopho with IE9 on Win7.
Other browsers work fine, but the photographer wants to use the IE no matter what I am saying. What can I do to fix that?

Try toggling the compatibility mode of IE. I can't duplicate this behavior on IE 9 and Vista, sorry. I can't see how there would be any difference between IE 9 on Vista or Win 7. Microsoft just needs to get off their lazy ass and drop "compatibility" mode altogether and just use the same standards that Chrome, Firefox and Opera use...

When I using compatibility mode of IE9 on Win7, the album sort doesn't even load.
There are also several other problems with design and (worst of it), an user is automatically logged out after a few clicks...

So compatibility mode is not an option. Do you have other suggestions?

BTW: I do not like both the IE and the Work of Microsoft. But my problem is that the photographer is only allowed to use IE at work. It was hard enough to convince people that IE6 is crap...

The workarround for this issue is to use a different browser. I have IE9 on Win 7 and it works for me.
We will work on a soution in the future.

I have IE9, Windows 7 and Gallery 3.0.2 with v4 Organizer, and if I turn on IE's compatability mode the organizer works fine.
